House.

Our Story

A house with
a story.

We are a coffee shop and bar dedicated to quality coffee and cozy vibes.

Our story starts with an opportunity to join the Mt. Auburn community and open our doors in the historic Flat Iron building, located at the intersection of Sycamore and Dorchester.

The name The Monarch House comes from our admiration for the monarch butterfly. Though delicate and small, monarchs are recognized for many amazing things — including their remarkable migration pattern.

Each year, the monarch travels up to 3,000 miles from North America to Central Mexico for warmth, a path that closely resembles the shipping routes of the coffee trade and displays the incredible strength and resilience this tiny creature holds.

Our appreciation for their strength is closely matched by our love for their beauty, and the inspiration we get when we spot them in the wild. Monarchs remain synonymous with a spirit from the past, bringing comfort and company.

Creating a comforting space for those from near and far to share coffee, laughs, and connection is at the heart of The Monarch House.

We hope to be a stop on your journey.

More Than Coffee.
A Community.

The Monarch House is where Cincinnati comes to feel at home. From the moment you walk through our doors, you're greeted by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the warmth of genuine hospitality.

Whether you're starting your morning with a perfectly pulled espresso, catching up with friends over craft cocktails, or finding your favorite corner to work — we've created a space that transforms with your day.

OUR MISSION

Solace, comfort, a smiling face.

Like the butterfly's journey — sometimes unknown and challenging — we aim to provide solace and comfort to our friends visiting the nearby hospital communities and surrounding neighborhoods.

We offer a place to get away and relax the mind from challenging days. As a family that has encountered these long days ourselves, it is our goal to make everyone who walks through our door feel at home and be greeted by a smiling face.

Where it all begins

The Monarch House was born from a simple idea: that a neighborhood deserves a space that feels like home. Somewhere to start the morning slowly, to meet a friend, to work, to wander, and to wind down. We're still putting the final touches on our space — fresh paint, warm light, and plenty of seats — but our heart has been here from the start.

Like the monarch butterfly, we believe in transformation and the beauty of the journey. Every detail, from our coffee to our evening wine list, is chosen to help you slow down and feel at home.

Come see what we're building.
